TIRANA, January 11 /ATA/ The Albanian government signed today an agreement to strengthen the Digital Systems Security in the country with the well-known American company, “Jones International”.
The company is led by a senior U.S. military and political figure, James Logan Jones Jr., a four-star U.S. Navy Corps general, former White House National Security Adviser, Marine Corps Commander, Commander of US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
“Albania has entered a new era, the digital era and this is an achievement of which we are proud,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku at the signing ceremony of the agreement in the Premier’s Office, where Prime Minister Edi Rama is also present.
The minister said that today over 90% of services for citizens and businesses are provided online.
“But, as we move forward with the agenda of providing as many online services as possible to citizens, we are certainly exposed to cyber attacks. Today, the biggest challenge, not only for Albania, but for every country that has decided to follow the path of digitalization, is cyber security, which is the last line of defence. Cyber security is the practice of securing networks, systems and every other digital and critical infrastructure from internal or external malicious attacks,” she said.
According to Balluku, the best strategy of protection is a strong security infrastructure, which includes installment of multilayer protective systems to prevent cyber attacks in computers, programs and networks.
“The Albanian government is fully aware of the danger posed, not only by cyber attacks but also by deliberate leaks of information, as issues that directly affect the country’s national security and the protection of privacy and citizens’ data. Therefore, we are taking a very proactive approach to boost cyber security based on examples and events that we have had “, said the minister./a.a/p.s./
