Interior Minister commends police for ensuring order during protest, says acts of violence won’t be tolerated

TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/-By I.Vata/ – The Minister of Interior Bledi Çuçi commended the State Police officers for intervening to stop the acts of violence at the Democratic Party premises on Saturday, when the opposition supporters clashed with each other as they tried to storm their party headquarters following an internal fight for the party leadership.

Interior Minister praised police for demonstrating professionalism in ensuring public order and safety after the violent protest called by the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

“The State Police demonstrated they are a depoliticized force and totally committed to protecting the citizens’ lives and properties. Peaceful protests are cornerstone of democracy, but the acts of violence and the attempts to threaten public order won’t be tolerated. The State Police are determined to go on with their work and the mission they are tasked with by law,” Çuçi said.
