Tabaku: Budget, incentives proposed to boost consumption dismissed

TIRANA, Nov 25 /ATA/ Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, reacted on Thursday after parliament dismissed the DP initiative to reduce prices.

Tabaku said, “Unfortunately, today the government dismissed the DP initiative to reduce VAT on food from 20% to 6%. Amid an unprecedented situation of soaring prices, when every government introduces measures to protect citizens and the vulnerable, Rama-led government refuses to adopt incentives for boosting consumption and protecting the families in need.”

She stressed that, “659 thousand individuals today are living at subsistence level. Although 40% of the family budget today goes to basic subsistence and food, the government turns down our initiative to reduce prices, it raises taxes for farmers and reduces compensation.”

“The budget approved today formalized the capture of the state, laws tailored to the needs of government clients. Fuel tax for yachts is reduced. The tax on powdered milk is scrapped,” said Tabaku.

“What does the government envisage to support the ordinary citizens and farmers next year?” Only price hikes. Increasing VAT on agriculture, which will push the prices up. Raising the gas tax, which will increase the cost of living for Albanians,” said Tabaku.
