TIRANA, Nov 15 /ATA/ Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, in his remarks during the presentation of the 2022 draft budget for the defense described 30% increase of salaries for all the military as a major achievement.
He said that there are over 6 thousand members of the Armed Forces who will receive 30% more income.
“We do not expect from the opposition to applaud this measure, instead its role is to identify the weaknesses rather than blow them out of proportions. When the government presents the budget, it is normal on its part to speak on a positive note about those priorities that are supported by this budget. Fortunately the budget is full of good news for many sectors. Of course you can not say that it is a historic achievement in terms of the largest increase in 30 years. The truth of the matter is that with the salary increase for all military over 6 thousand members of the Armed Forces will have 30% more income in the budget, ” Peleshi said.
“I am very proud of the budget of the Ministry of Defense. I mentioned some figures that cannot be contested. We are at 1.75% of GDP, NATO’s obligation is to go to 2%. The chart showing the steps to get there by 2024 has been drawn up : 1.75% 2022, 1.85% 2023 and 2% in 2024. We are aligning with NATO requirements, but are also implementing and meeting quite well our priorities and needs for modernization, “Peleshi added.
