Budget 2022, Veliaj: We scrap VAT on bus ticket

TIRANA, Nov 9 /ATA/ Tirana mayor, Erion Veliaj, was present at the Parliamentary Law Committee, which is holding a hearing with the Association of Local Govt. Autonomy on the 2022 budget.

Veliaj made an overview of the efforts to upgrade public transport, adding that some proposals have been endorsed by the government, but also require the consent of the Parliamentary Law Committee and Parliament.

“We live in a situation where the oil market is highly volatile and as such we urge that the will of the government is endorsed by Parliament, when it comes to helping public transport operators. The truth of the matter is that public transport is unbalanced today, due to the market level and the price of oil. Our proposal which has been endorsed by the government is to scrap the VAT on tickets. Also, another proposal could be a refund of VAT or oil excise. We have a package of instruments to improve the management of public transport, which today is on the verge of collapse, ” he said, asking for help from the relevant ministries for subsidies for some categories, such as students, veterans or people with special needs.

The mayor also focused on the treatment of urban waste. He said that he has agreed with the government on the waste management subsidy for large urban areas or coastal areas, which have an even greater intensity.
