Balla: An agreement to extend vetting deadlines, an emergency

TIRANA, November 8/ATA/ The Chairperson of the Parliamentary group of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla received today the Rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament Isabel Santos.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Balla said that, “Today’s meeting comes after the publication by the EC of the progress report, which is one of the best for Albania.”

“The progress report has given the green light to holding of the first Intergovernmental Conference, the formal moment for the start of negotiations with a country aiming to join the EU, even though it is related to resolving the disputes between Bulgaria and North Macedonia,” Balla said.

Balla assured that, “We will continue to intensify our efforts to advance reforms.”

“We talked about issues related to Justice Reform, its progress, as well as the need for agreement of all parties to extend the deadlines of the Vetting bodies until December 2024,” said Balla.

He stressed that, “This is not a political issue, but we are under the conditions of an urgent need for the parties to agree, not as a need for a dialogue or political agreement, but as a need brought by the suggestion of experts.” /a.a/p.s./
