Escobar: Dialogue, best way to normalize Kosovo-Serbia relations

PRISTINA, Oct 28 /ATA/ – The U.S. President’s special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar informed the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee on the commitment of the U.S. administration to the Western Balkans.

Speaking about normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations, Escobar said that peace, stability and prosperity through integration into the European Union is a shared goal.

“We are working together to accomplish this goal, including the EU –mediated dialogue as the best way to normalize relations between Serbia and Kosovo. To this end, I travelled to Brussels last month to support the efforts of EU Special Representative for Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak to push both sides to deescalate the situation due to car license plates and find solutions that would provide them more room to focus on more complex issues.

“Together we have made it clear that dialogue is a forum in which both parties, as equals, must work to resolve their differences and normalize relations, ideally through mutual recognition,” he added.
