TIRANA, Oct.25/ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha said at the today’s plenary session that, Albania is ranked last in Europe in terms of following the rule of law.
“A few days ago, the World Justice Project, an independent, multidisciplinary organization working to advance the rule of law worldwide, based in the United States, published the Rule of Law Index, 2020-2021, in which Albania was ranked last in Europe,” the DP leader Basha said.
“Albania is ranked 83rd out of 139 countries, among Algeria and Suriname, countries, many of you do not know if they are on the map, thus you have to search on Google to find them. I remember when I was studying in the Netherlands, these were countries with an internationally wanted president accused of corruption, drug trafficking and political assassination,” Basha said.
“8 years after the rule of the current Prime Minister, Albania has become a country where corruption and lack of rule of law is no longer news,” DP leader Basha added.
“This World Justice Project report confirms what other international organizations have stated on Albania in recent years. Exactly what the Democratic Party has strongly denounced, and above all what the honest citizens and entrepreneurs of this country experience every day, injustice, abusiveness and lack of accountability,” Basha said.
“The Albanian state under Edi Rama is not just corrupt but it is also a state caught up in corruption. This is also said in the report of Transparency International,” he said.
“According to data published by the World Bank and the EBRD, Albanian companies pay an average of 3.1% of their annual turnover as bribes to officials and politicians. This figure is three times higher than the one reported in 2013. Unfortunately, the bribery tax ranks Albania second in the world after Zambia. Thus, once again there is a relocation to another continent of our country, in Africa, due to corruption,” Basha stressed.
In his remarks, the DP leader Basha emphasized that, “5 days ago, the Democratic Party officially submitted to the Albanian Parliament the constitutional amendments on 3 absolute priorities to get Albania and Albanians out of depression, crisis and miserable situation, a product of eight years of misgovernment, corruption and destruction of any institution, including the institution of free vote.”
“These three main issues reflected in our constitutional amendments are related to the Electoral Reform, in all its aspects, to restore state legitimacy and democracy,” Basha said. //a.i/
