SP, initiative to extend vetting process until 2024

TIRANA, October 15 /ATA/- The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla stated today that the Parliamentary Group of the SP has taken the decision to submit to the Assembly the initiative of a group of more than 1/5 members of the Assembly to extend the mandate of the Independent Qualification Commission and of Public Commissioners.

“Yesterday, the SP Parliamentary Group took the decision to submit to the Albanian Parliament the initiative of a group of more than 1/5 of the members of the Albanian Parliament to start a procedure of amending the Constitution in order to pave the way extending the mandate of the Independent Qualification Commission and Public Commissioners, as the first level of the Vetting process, extending the Vetting process by the Independent Qualification Commission until 31.12.2024, adding another 30 months, which I believe are enough to conclude the Vetting process “, said Balla in a statement for the media in Fier.

“The continuation of the Vetting process with the same standard that has been pursued so far is a necessity to which political parties should stay away, because the foundation of justice reform has been precisely the removal of any kind of influence that came from political parties. The process of selecting prosecutors and judges no longer goes through political decision-making, but it is a new scheme which has begun to yield concrete results”, said Balla./p.s./
