PRISTINA, Oct 15 /ATA/ – Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani on Friday called on Serbia to understand and recognize the reality that Kosovo is an independent state and such a reality is irreversible.
Addressing the United Nation’s Security Council meeting in New York, President Osmani also appealed for Kosovo’s membership in the international bodies.
Osmani focused on the mandate of UNMIK mission, the dialogue with Serbia and Belgrade’s approach towards the genocide committed in Kosovo.
After the UNMIK mission chief in Kosovo blamed Kosovo authorities for the most recent tensions the country’s north following the Kosovo government decision to apply the reciprocity principle on the license plates and Kosovo police operations to combat smuggling, President Osmani clarified that Kosovo institutions have informed NATO, KFOR and QUINT embassies about those actions.
Osmani even demanded that the budget intended for UNMIK be used for something better, emphasizing that his mandate in Kosovo already contradicts the interpretation of the International Court of Justice.
In response to criticism regarding tensions in the north, Osmani stressed that the allies were informed and highlighted the support for Kosovo from the US, Great Britain, Germany, after Kosovo police launched operations to combat smuggling and organized crime in north of the country.
Osmani said that the fight against organized crime in Kosovo has no ethnicity. Regarding the dialogue with Serbia, she said that Kosovo, in addition to sitting at the negotiating table, will engage in this dialogue for the purpose of mutual recognition.
Osmani said Serbia has failed to respect the deals between the two countries under the EU-mediated dialogue, stating that Kosovo has respected 90% of them.
She stated that Kosovo’s independence is irreversible and highlighted the country’s achievements in the international arena.
