Expulsion from DP parliamentary group, Berisha: Basha’s decision is personal, it does not come from DP forums

TIRANA, Sept 9 /ATA/ Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, designated as “persona non grata” by US State Department, said on Thursday that the decision of the Democratic Party head, Lulzim Basha, to expel him from the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party is in breach of any statutory norm and law.

At a media briefing, Berisha said that he was informed about this decision by Basha only 30 minutes before the official statement.

Berisha said that in his opinion a person that stands by the basic principles cannot take this decision.

“I understand the pressure, but despite the pressure, he should have considered his resignation rather than the sovereignty of the Democratic Party. He did what Celibashi did not do. He dismantled the DP as a sovereign party. I’m sure he was threatened with sanctions. But I do not care at all. This is not a blow to Sali Berisha, but to the political party,” he said.

Berisha said that Basha has regarded his interests over those of the country, DP and pluralism.

Berisha added that he will be in parliament despite this decision.
