TIRANA, Sept. 3/ATA/ During an event held today at Farka Air Base, the Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama praised the fire and forest management in the country, while attaching great importance to the punishment of arsonists.
While expressing greatful thanks to all the forces engaged in this operation, Prime Minister Rama underlined the need to advance the process of modernization of Albania’s Civil Protection that has begun to produce its first tangible and clear results.
“The results of the reform of the entire system of civil emergencies are very encouraging, which give some cause for optimism to see the final outcome of this process,” the premier Rama said.
In this regard, the Prime Minister Rama guaranteed that, “we will do what it takes to increase the salary of these troops, which is never enough for the armed forces facing life-threatening challenges.”
In his remarks, the Prime Minister Rama emphasized that, “following the current wildfire situation that engulfed the world, for the first time it happened that countries like Italy, Turkey and Greece had no opportunity to assist us, instead they needed help to respond to forest fires.”
“Therefore, it is not accidental that the EU has set up an internal mechanism to assist its family states that are facing emergencies and major disasters, as no country can cope alone. Moreover, in our case we still have bigger shortcomings compared to many other countries on this continent,” the premier Rama said.
The Prime Minister thanked the EU Ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca and the US Ambassador in Tirana , Yuri Kim, who, according to him, throughout the month of August have been continuously attentive and interested in the situation.”
“The presence of the Ambassadors of the Netherlands and the Czech Republic represents a symbol of solidarity of the USA and the EU with the Albanian people, the Prime Minister Rama said, while appreciating the assistance provided by these countries through fire fighting tools aimed at facilitating the on-site work,” the Prime Minister Rama added.
“I hope that the courts will give the right decisions as many natural values and trees and life resources have been destroyed. These barbaric criminals must not only face imprisonment, but their punishment should serve as a clear message to others like them,” he concluded. //a.i/
