TIRANA, Sept 2 /ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, received on Thursday in Tirana her Danish counterpart, Jeppe Kofod, who is on a two-day official visit to Albania.
At a media statement after the meeting, minister Xhaçka highly appreciated the support that Denmark has provided to Albania on its pathway to EU integration.
She said that Denmark has been one of the strictest and most demanding judges regarding Albania’s progress and its support is clear proof of our tangible and convincing progress.
“We had the opportunity to talk at length about everything we have done, but also about the challenging conditions in which we had to work to meet the requirements. I had the opportunity to express the high expectations we have from the next meeting of the EU Council, as a country that already deserves and is fully ready for the approval of the negotiating framework and for holding the first Intergovernmental Conference,”
Xhaçka said after meeting with her Danish counterpart.
Minister Xhaçka expressed gratitude for the contribution of the Danish government to management of the 2019 earthquake impact and the battle with the pandemic.
She guaranteed cooperation with Denmark in the field of protection of women’s rights and climate issues during Albania’s tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, a position that Denmark intends to take over during 2025 – 2026.
This is the first visit of a Danish Foreign Minister to Albania, since the visit of Per Stiger Moller 15 years ago.
