TIRANA, Sept 2 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama, also leader of the Socialist Party, said in his address to the party’s National Assembly on Thursday that the goal of the ruling majority is to win a fourth consecutive term in office in 2025.
“We should do utmost efforts to succeed and be reconfirmed again after four years,” the government head said in his remarks at the SP National Assembly, where the names of the new cabinet are expected to be unveiled following the victory in the April 25 parliamentary elections.
The Premier made a retrospective of the Socialist’s path to power, stating that wining the third term was the toughest victory.
“We were once in opposition following crushing election defeat. The Democratic Party came to power through free elections eight years after being removed by an uprising. It was a party suffering a demoralizing defeat as a result of divisions, self-complacency and ignoring the citizens’ voice and weakness because of infighting,” Rama said.
Rama said that the then Socialist opposition recovered while making efforts to take the country’s helms as a new governing alternative.
Rama recalled that SP won the first term in office, it was confirmed for a second term and secured its third consecutive mandate like no other governing party in Albania’s history.
“This was the toughest victory. Just the fact we are the first to earn a third consecutive mandate speaks for itself about this hard-fought but also well-deserved victory,” he said, adding that securing a fourth term in office would be harder, “but it is definitely our task to do so as we owe it to all of those who trusted us and Albania itself and we will do whatever it takes so that our majority is reconfirmed after four years.”
