TIRANA, Sept 1 /ATA/ – The Albanian National Territory Protection Inspectorate (IKMT) resumed Wednesday demolition of the illegal buildings along the coastline in the coastal town of Dhermi as part of the operation called “Our Coast”, which was suspended during the summer tourist season, aimed at removing unauthorized structures along coastal areas across Albania as protection of the territory and tourism development are top government priorities.
The operation started with demolition of a five-storey building in Dhermi.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, who posted the video showing demolition of the building, said that his government will draft a new law on protection of the coastline, together with the new plan on beach administration and cleanliness of tourist areas.
Deputy Interior Minister Julian Hodaj, who attended the operation, stated that the country’s coastline will be cleaned of any unauthorized building.
“The operation to demolish any unauthorized building along the coast resumes right where it was suspended after start of summer tourist season. Zero tolerance policy to be applied to illegal structures and those responsible will face justice based on new criminal code amendments on the violation of construction rules,” he stated.
Once demolition of the illegal structures in coastal areas completes, the operation will continue in the Protected Areas and along the main national roads throughout the country.
