TIRANA, Aug 24 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama posted Tuesday a video showing Grama Bay, a small but beautiful cove surrounded by high, rocky cliffs situated on Albania’s Ionian Sea, saying the beach is becoming a popular destination for both local and international tourists.
The Bay of Grama is a small inlet in the Ionian Sea, located on the western slope of the the Rrëza e Kanalit mountains, near the ancient town of Orikum in the southern coastal region of Vlora.
This semi-secret little beach is one of the real gems of the Albanian coast and as of yet completely untouched or spoiled by mass tourism.
The bay extends several hundred meters to the mainland forming a rocky landscape dotted with a number of marine caves.
The natural landscape is very attractive to any visitor. This bay served as an important harbour and shelter for those sailing along the coast during classical antiquity.
Grama used to be also a quarry during the antiquity. The stones extracted from the Grama Bay quarry were used to construct entire Illyrian cities. Sailors and quarry workers are believed to have left the rock inscriptions that attract visitors nowadays.
The cave there is often called the cave of inscriptions. Archaeologists have studied these historical documents carved into the rocks.
In addition to its rich ancient history and amazing nature, Grama Bay also offers the option of cave exploration as there are plenty of gorgeous ones around here!
