Sea turtles rescued in Patok lagoon

TIRANA, August 23/ATA/ The employees of Lezha Protected Areas Administration have become heroes of the day by rescuing some sea turtles that were left in the lagoon of Patoku.

The Administration of Protected Areas of Lezha gave the news explaining that today they received a report about some sea turtles (Caretta caretta) which were stuck in nets in the lagoon of Patoku. Immediately after receiving the report, the staff of the Regional Administration of Protected Areas in Lezha went to the spot to rescue the turtles which were later taken to the turtle recovery center in Patok. After the necessary measurements were made, these turtles were put back into the sea.”

The sea turtle is the most common found in Albanian waters, because the waters of the Albanian territories are an important food area for the sea turtle population in the Mediterranean, so there is a constant need for their conservation.

Sea turtles are important for their role in the marine ecosystem, keeping marine lawns and coral barriers healthy. They provide habitats for marine life, balance the marine food chain and facilitate the return of nutrients from water to land. /j.p/p.s./
