Veliaj: Fire at “Toptani Saray” was arson attack; no construction will be allowed there

TIRANA, August 17/ATA/ Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj reacted to the fire event that last night engulfed the cultural monument in the center of the capital Tirana, known as the Saray, i.e. the palace.

Veliaj wrote on the social media that the arson attack was intentional and that the cameras have filmed the arsonist.

He said that he talked with Prime Minister Edi Rama who has authorized the accelerated expropriation of the palace and that beginning from today the building will be guarded 24-hours a day.

“Last night at 23.49, the Municipal Police reported for arson attack at the Cultural Monument, popularly known as Saray. In a few minutes, City Of Tirana firefighters extinguished the deliberate fire. In contrast to other objects, the Saray object is a cultural monument “, said Veliaj.

“Security cameras have filmed the arsonist as he leaves in front of Torre Drin. The State Police is working to arrest him,” he continued.

“But, the real arsonists are the ones who ordered him – there will be no mercy for the masterminds either. Everyone should forget that there will be any construction there. Beginning from today, the 24-hour guard regime has started!” Veliaj wrote on Twitter. /j.p/p.s./
