TIRANA, August 4/ATA/- During the first half of the current year, the volume of freight transported by rail is estimated at 14.9 million ton-kilometers.
According to the report recently published by INSTAT, the volume of freight transported by rail increased by 23.3%, compared to the same period of 2020.
In the first semester months of 2021, volume of freights transported by rail is 14,952 thousand tons-km, increasing by 23.3 % compared to the first semester months of year 2020.
The volume of freight transported by rail in June 2021 is 2,021 thousand / tons – km decreasing 1.3 % compared to June 2020.
The volume of freight transported by rail decreased by 17.8 %, compared with monthly average for June period 2018-2020.
The Albanian railway network has 416 km of railway line in use.
The government vision for development of the country 2030 makes rail transport one of the main pillars. Rail transport is also important in context of the objective of developing an efficient and green transport. But, it is also important in context of the objective of interconnection with the region and beyond./p.s./
