Spiropali: New justice and development era for Albania

TIRANA, July 26 /ATA/ – The Minister of State for the Relations with Parliament Elisa Spiropali told a TV interview on Monday that the judicial reform has ushered in a new era of justice and development in Albania.

Spiropali praised the Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime prosecutors, known as SPAK, for their work in investigating, and bringing to justice corrupt current and former officials.

“There could be neither Socialists or Democrats when it comes to the justice matters, but just people who should be held accountable before justice. Any comment on any concrete case would be unnecessary, but the only comment that is never unnecessary is that the past, when the politics used to pull the strings of the justice system to save friends, accomplices, cabinet members, lawmakers, is now over. The architecture of the new justice system prevents any influence. Let’s see how it will work, but I am confident that a new era of justice and development has begun in Albania,” Spiropali said in a televised interview.

“Albanians want to see an end being put to the culture of impunity. Around 93% of Albanians supported the justice system reform in 2016, when the constitutional amendments were passed to clear the way towards implementation of this crucial reform,” she noted.

The senior Socialist official reiterated the majority’s readiness to reach out to opposition and cooperate in parliament to push forward major EU integration reforms.

“The governing majority won’t involve in any useless political debate that fails to yield alternatives and ideas. We will confront each other’s ideas and policies, but we will not engage in personal assaults,” she stated.

“We have always forwarded one offer to the opposition; identify our common points regarding important issues of national interest, namely the EU integration process. More than 90 % of Albanian citizens support the country’s integration into the EU,” Spiropali added.
