TIRANA, July 25 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama posted Sunday images showing the fleet of new electric buses, which will gradually replace public transport vehicles that use fossil fuels as part of efforts to lower the level of pollution in Tirana.
“Good morning and via images featuring the new generation of the public transport, namely the hybrid electric buses, due to become operational as part of the efforts for green and clean Tirana, I wish you a beautiful Sunday to everyone,” PM Rama said.
The Premier added that a new 13.2-km big ring bus line, with 66 bus stations, is set to become operational starting next month.
The first fleet of 20 “Go Green” buses was introduced during a ceremony at Mother Teresa square a day ago and the new urban bus line is scheduled to be launched in August. The investment will complete gradually with the delivery of 22 more hybrid electric buses soon.
The new environmentally friendly bus line in Tirana is designed to provide a wide coverage and integration with the existing transport network, providing citizens the opportunity to travel longer distances with a transport line.
The new environmentally-friendly buses are delivered under the agreement between Germany and Albania on funding the Green Transport project in Tirana. The Green Transport project is based on an in-depth feasibility study for a rapid bus system in Tirana and the main objective of the project is to introduce an urban transport system both environmentally and climate friendly, as well as reliable and affordable for the citizens in the capital city.
