Flamingos offer spectacle in Pishporo, too

TIRANA, July 20 /ATA/ Flamingos, playful birds that attract visitors with their pirouettes, have found an oasis of tranquillity in the wetland of Pishporo beach, in Fier.

Besides Narta and Divjaka-Karavasta national park, in recent years flamingos are also present in Pishporo.

Fotjon Prençe, Head of Monitoring at the Administration of Protected Areas in Fier, said today for ATA that, “The flamingo colony has been present over three years in Pishporo. The tranquillity created and the food found in the protected areas’ ligaments have made these elegant and playful birds offer a spectacle.”

According to him, flamingos have become an attraction for tourists.

Flamingos always live in groups, from small groups to hundreds of thousands. Birds soar in the air in groups and fly hundreds of miles during the migration period. The flight takes long or V-shaped queues until they reach their destination – a saltwater lake, which is a great place to nest.

Hundreds of flamingos may gather together like a water ballet troupe. Everyone cleans their pink feathers by standing with one foot in the sun for hours. They even sleep on one leg.

Their height ranges from 81 to 130 cm, but their body weight is small, it ranges from 2–3,6 kg. Combining weight and colour, flamingos are among the most distinctive birds of the world./p.s./
