TIRANA, June 4 /ATA/ – Public Health Institute official Artan Simaku affirmed Friday that no fresh COVID-19 infection cases have been reported in 31 municipalities across Albania over the past two weeks.
Simaku also said in a TV interview that no new coronavirus cases have been detected in 23 municipalities in the last four weeks and the number of districts across the country where no cases are reported is constantly increasing.
“A slight incidence rate or better say an incidence alternation during two-week periods is recorded in around 13 municipalities,” he said.
Simaku noted that people aged over 60 years have been all vaccinated and 55-64 age group is the most affected in the last two weeks, followed by the 45-54 age group.
Commenting on the Indian covid-19 variant, Simaku noted that this variant is now becoming the dominant strain in several countries in Europe, but he said the current COVID-19 vaccines, also being administered in Albania, provide effective protection from the virus.
