Kosovo government adopts governing program, including genocide charges against Serbia

PRISTINA, May 7 /ATA/ – Pandemic management, support to soften economic blow due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis are top priorities for Albin Kurti’s government in Kosovo. The government approved its 2021-2025 governing program more than 40 days since Parliament of Kosovo approved the new cabinet.

“Handling the COVID-19 pandemic by minimizing effects on public health and mitigating the economic and social consequences caused by the pandemic, which require mobilization of the state potential. Pandemic management is happening on many fronts. However, securing coronavirus vaccines as soon as possible remains a top government priority. We are working and a solid number of them have already been confirmed. We will provide more doses of vaccines in order to ensure the immunization of 60 percent of the country’s population by the year end,” Kurti said.

He added that the recovery of the economy is another challenge the country is facing. Kurti promised the creation of the Development Bank and the Sovereign Wealth Fund during his term in office.

He also pledged to finalize public administration reform and turn Trepçe into a feasible and profitable enterprise.

Kurti also emphasised his foreign policy priorities, saying Kosovo government will file genocide charges against Serbia to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), make Kosovo a member country of the Adriatic Charter, and further strengthen cooperation with Albania.

“We will apply and become a member of the Adriatic Charter. We will engage in a principled dialogue, prepared and equal with Serbia with mutual recognition agreements. We will get closer and work closely with Albania. We will file the genocide lawsuit against Serbia to the ICJ. We will be able to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as we will make democratic and civil oversight of the Kosovo Security Force,” Kurti said.
