“Jews in Albania 1933 – 1944”/Unique exhibition with documents and photos, 3 days open for public at New Bazaar area

TIRANA, May 5/ATA/ “Jews in Albania 1933 – 1944” is the title of a unique documentary and photo exhibition funded by the Central Archives which opened today and will remain open to the public for 3 days in a row at the Recreation Square in the New Bazaar area, TID Tirana.

This exhibition contains lists of Jewish families who have found refuge in Albania, border reports on their crossing, documents of historical significance and photos of families that have sheltered Jews.

Elsa Saka, director of Evidence at the communication center at the General Directorate of Archives said that, “This exhibition was opened for the first time in Paris in 2008 and for the first time opens today in Albania”.

“We chose May with reference to the 1,500 Jewish bodies that were burned to death in the Auschwitz camp. It was not unintentionally chosen because we have to take the opportunity as Albania has been one of the countries that has welcomed them. While in other countries they were killed and persecuted in Albania, the opposite happened despite the difficult conditions because we were occupied in the meantime. They have been welcomed by Albanian families and have been provided with passports, making them equal to the citizens of Albania “, she said. /j.p/p.s./
