TIRANA, April 30 /ATA/ It has been a year since the Albanian Football Federation set up the Department of Sports Medicine in order to improve and further increase this football pillar, which in Albania has many shortcomings, given the absence of educational programs in this vital profile for the development of sports.
For this reason, this Department is organizing for the first time in Albania the program “UEFA Football Doctor Education”, a program that covers the basic aspects of sports medicine in the world of sports and football in particular, following the best guidelines and methods prepared by UEFA and its medical partners.
This course, which is very useful for sports doctors and physiotherapists, has had Albanian and foreign lecturers, big names of their profiles in the countries where they come from. One of them is Dr. Dritan Todhe, Orthopedic Surgeon, who shared his experience in the auditorium with the trainees and also spoke to fshf.org in an interview, to share the evaluations of the organization of this program by the FSHF and to give a message to young professionals.
“Such an initiative is to be admired and supported. Now, it is the time for sports medicine to be laid on a scientific basis as it should be, in full support of the serious investments that clubs are making in Albania recently. We are at a moment when sports medicine must be helped, not only by the Albanian Football Federation, not only by UEFA, but also by the Albanian medicine itself ‘, he said.
Speaking about shortcomings in sports medicine, he said that, “The lack of investment in this area has been noticed in recent years by not supporting young talents in cases of trauma, their full recovery, to put clubs in service of these talented players. The support that the Albanian Football Federation has already started to give to sports medicine is an excellent initiative and I believe that I will go beyond, through other even bolder European organizations in Albania. Sports medicine is no longer taboo, such initiatives are being concretized, always in the service of science, technology and sports”.
A message for young sports doctors and physiotherapists comes from Doctor Todhe. “These young people should no longer look at sports only for fun, but also as an opportunity to participate in it. Medical professionals can contribute to the direction of sports traumatology, as well as physiotherapy, as well as to ordinary sports doctors. Their coordination and engagement would ultimately increase the number of people available and ultimately increase the quality of sports medicine in our country,” he said./j.p/p.s./
