TIRANA, April 24 /ATA/ The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania officially decided to increase from 1% to 1.5% one of the macro-prudential capital measures that applies to all banks in the country.
Macro-prudential capital buffers are added to the basic regulatory requirements of bank capitalization, which are set out in the regulation “On capital adequacy.”
From 12% which is the minimum limit of capital adequacy, with the buffer of 1% it goes up to 13%.
The regulation on macro-prudential capital buffers was adopted in mid-2019 to be implemented gradually by 2024.
The requirements for a higher capitalization of banks are in line with the measures taken by counterpart institutions in Europe.
