PM Rama: Ilir Meta vowed not to approve justice system reform

TIRANA, April 16 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated Friday that the President of the Republic Ilir Meta vowed not to vote for the key judicial reform back in 2016, when Meta served as Parliament Speaker, “even if the U.S. Sixth Fleet was to bombard his home.

“Once Ilir Meta, while looking at the sea in Lalez Bay, told me that the justice system reform was not going to be approved even if the U.S. Sixth Fleet is to bombard my house. I told him that the Fleet was not going to come, yet he would eventually vote for the reform,” Rama said in his remarks at an electoral campaign meeting in the town of Çorovoda.

The Premier also said that thanks to the cooperation with the Socialist Movement for Integration, a strong majority and government was formed in 2013.

“It was precisely when we formed that cabinet that I happened to know Nasip and together we launched the most difficult and boldest reform that nobody had ever imagined. We undertook the vital overhaul of the justice system even the majority and the ruling coalition was risked to collapse. The disputes began when the reform package took its final shape,” PM Rama recalled.
