DP leader vows to restore local government autonomy, put administration under citizens’ service

TIRANA, April 16 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/  – Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha pledged Friday “to restore local government autonomy and free the justice system from political pressure and independence” should his party wins the April 25 general elections in Albania.

The DP leader held an electoral campaign meeting with local residents in Vaqarr, Tirana municipality, where participants voiced their concern over the head of the administrative unit.

“You are all quite aware that Gent Myrto (head of administrative unit) is certified land thief. The only reason why he is serving in that position and not where he deserves to be is that justice system is under political pressure,” Basha claimed.

According to him, a vote for his party on April 25 elections would liberate justice system from political pressure.

“We will keep our hands away from the justice system. But the only reason why these things have happened is because the government has been defending corrupt officials by exerting pressure on the justice system, on judges and prosecutors,” he said.

“This is part of the change to happen on April 25. And this means we will restore institutions back to the citizens,” he promised.
