COVID vaccination would become lost process, post-earthquake reconstruction will be delayed if opposition wins elections

TIRANA, April 4 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Sunday that a considerable quantity of COVID-19 vaccine doses has been secured and the mass immunisation campaign is progressing as planned.

Addressing an election campaign event in the city of Fier, the government head said that the governing majority needs to press ahead with a series of major projects, underlining that the vaccination against the novel coronavirus and the post-earthquake reconstruction programme would either cease or significantly slow down should the opposition wins the next month’s parliamentary elections in the country.

“This could be achieved by keeping on fighting and making sure that the invisible enemy is defeated, the effects of the earthquake are neutralized and ensuring that the quake-affected families move into their homes in the new residential neighbourhoods we are building,” PM Rama said.

“We have secured considerable doses of the COVID vaccines. Do you think that they really secure the needed vaccine shipments, while they urge people to refuse the jab, claiming that people are dying because of the vaccine? Forget it! With them the process, we have already won, would turn into a lost process,” Rama said.

“Would they make sure that quake-affected families return to their homes in the new residential complexes we are already building? Forget it! With them in the government, the reconstruction programme would become a torture because of long delays, just like they have done anytime they have held office,” he added.

Rama also noted that the tourism season won’t be relaxed if they win the April 25 elections.
