PM Rama: Law on Higher Education strengthened Universities autonomy

TIRANA, April 1 /ATA/- The law on Higher Education strengthened the autonomy of the Universities, the Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama said at the today’s meeting with lecturers of the “Luigj Gurakuqi” university in Shkodra.

Touching on the Education reform, the Prime Minister Rama said that, “an extreme step needed to be taken to close all those Universities to stop the mass hemorrhage.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister Rama emphasized that, “the law on higher education has strongly pushed the process towards autonomy.”

“The university is given considerable autonomy thanks to this law,” the premier Rama said.

According to the Prime Minister Rama, autonomy is understood as freedom, but not as a responsibility. Freedom and responsibility must go hand in hand. There should be the right balance between freedom and responsibility. The combination of the two is autonomy.

“What worries us more is that, things have to be set right to move towards autonomy to be creative and to open new paths to adapt to the new conditions. But unfortunately the general tendency is to add product to retain lecturers and keep the university open through fees. This has made us remain reluctant to continue on the same path,” the premier Rama added.

“The tendencies of concerns should be turned into written and reforms consulted among the lecturers, on a platform for a period of 10 years while the details of the operation should be clarified,” he said.//a.i/
