First flight from Kukes airport to take place on April 18

TIRANA, March 19 /ATA/ – The Infrastructure and Energy Minister Belinda Balluku confirmed Friday that the first inaugural flight and landing in the new airport in the north-eastern town of Kukes will take place on April 18 after the test flights necessary for the international certification of the airport.

Balluku noted that Albania’s civil aviation abides by the best international standards and rules.

She said in a TV interview that no investment is launched in the industry of the Albanian aviation or in other countries before a complete study is conducted in compliance with the best international standards.

“Kukes airport will be very feasible, because it is a regional airport. Kukes airport is designed to serve also passengers from Kosovo and other neighbouring countries,” she said.

According to her, construction of the airport in the north-eastern town of Kukes is a promise kept.

“Since the day one when the work begun to construct the airport, PM Rama has pledged that young people from Kukes will be the first flight passengers to land in the Kukes airport on April 18. We will land the first plane of the national carrier Air Albania on that date,” she added.
