TIRANA, March 12 /ATA/ – Albania will play an away friendly against Czech Republic on June 8, just three days after a World Cup qualifier against Wales on June 5 at 6pm at Cardiff City Stadium.
Press office at the Albanian Football Federation said Friday that the two respective federations have agreed for the game to be played at the Czech Republic capital, whereas time and the stadium are yet to be decided in the coming weeks.
The Albania-Czech Republic friendly will be the first in history. Albania’s Red and Black have played five times against the former Czechoslovakia in the past, three friendlies and two European Championship qualifiers.
On September 17, 1950, Czechoslovakia handed a 3 to 0 defeat to the Albanian national side at an away friendly played in Prague, whereas Albania beat Czechoslovakia by 3 to 2 at a match played at former Qemal Stafa stadium on November 29, 1952. Few days later, on December 7, 1952, Albania played again a friendly against Czechoslovakia wining the game by 2 to 1.
The last two encounters between Albania and the Czechoslovakia were played on May 1, 1991, where Albania suffered a 0-2 defeat and an away match on October 1991, when Czechoslovakia defeated Albania by 2 to 1. The two matches were played under the 1992 European Championship qualifiers.
Czech Republic side is managed by head coach Jaroslav Šilhavý and currently ranks 42nd on FIFA’s ranking.
