TIRANA, March 10 /ATA/ – The number of candidates for MP that a party or a coalition must submit to the Central Election Commission (CEC) is 153.
In reaction to some media articles confusing the number of candidates and the number of mandates, CEC clarified today that, “The Assembly has 140 MPs (mandates). MPs are elected on a regional basis. The number of MPs (mandates) elected for every district is: Berat 7, Dibër 5, Durrës 14, Elbasan 14, Gjirokastër 4, Fier 16, Korçë 11, Kukës 3, Lezhë 7, Shkodër 11, Tirana 36, Vlora 12. Total MP 140 ”.
“Article 67, point 4 of the Electoral Code stipulates:” The number of candidates in the multi-name list can not be less than the number of seats to be elected in the respective constituency, plus two. “In any case, the number of candidates in the multi-name list must be full-dividend to number three”, the CEC emphasized.
Thus, the CEC added, “Therefore, the Electoral Code has determined the obligation for political parties (or coalitions) to nominate a number of candidates for MP for every region greater than the number of seats for every region.”
Thus, the CEC continued, “The number of candidates in a region is different from the number of mandates in that region. For every region the number of candidates that the party or coalition must submit to the CEC is as follows: Berat 9, Dibër 6, Durrës 15, Elbasan 15, Gjirokastër 6, Fier 18, Korçë 12, Kukës 3, Lezhë 9, Shkodër 12, Tirana 36, Vlora 12.
