TIRANA, February 22 /ATA/ – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Olta Xhaçka stated today that Albania has done its homework. It has met all the conditions and today deserves a date for the First Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference. And it is time for the EU to keep its promise to Albania.
Speaking at the plenary session in the Parliament where the report on the annual activity of the National Council of European Integration for 2020 is being reviewed, Xhaçka said that, “Despite the difficulties and obstacles, the integration process has gained momentum, a significant acceleration that has brought Albania “very close to the start of concrete membership negotiations, chapter by chapter”.
She stressed that, “A lot of work has been done to meet the 15 points required by the EU, a job that has required the commitment and effort of many sectors of society and government.”
Xhaçka added that, the good news is that now not only Albania says this, but also the representatives of the EU and member states “.
Xhaçka said that, “Every objective, technical evaluation of the work done by Albania reaches the same conclusion. Albania has done everything asked of it, it is the turn of the EU”.
Xhaçka underlined that, “There is one last moment that must be successfully overcome on this road to the First Intergovernmental Conference and it is the elections of April 25. Holding free and fair elections, peaceful and accepted, is the key that will pave the way for integration.”
Xhaçka said that, “Never before has a majority done as much as we have done to guarantee free and fair elections”.
It is all these elements, added Xhaçka, “that make us look forward with optimism to the holding of the First Intergovernmental Conference within the Portuguese Presidency”./j.p/p.s./
