Durrës Port to turn into largest Mediterranean-based navy/ PM Rama: First phase project is ready

TIRANA, February 9/ATA/- The Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama said today that the first phase project on the new tourist port of Durrës is ready and will turn into the largest Mediterranean-based navy.

In a conversation with citizens of Durrës, the Prime Minister Rama stressed that, “one of the largest companies in the world, which is engaged in tourism investments in the Middle East, in addition to the desire expressed to be part of this project, has also submitted the project of the first phase of the tourist port of Durrës.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister Rama expressed the conviction that Durrës should to get rid of intense activity of loading and unloading of goods in its heart.

“This is a 2400-year-old port, while Durrës perspective is closely related to tourism, tourism sector has definitely a bright future in Durrës, as the city has significant cultural heritage values, recreational space for vacationers, a hospitable capacity and an increasingly sophisticated cuisine that is really a good reason to visit Durrës and the city can no longer have a port in its heart, which from every point of view is outdated,” the premier Rama stressed.

“The idea to build a tourist navy near the port of Durrës is an old idea, which has been repeated from time to time by various administrations of the municipality of Durrës. An idea which was materialized in granting the right to develop a certain concession in that area for a long time even by previous governments and it has never worked. Because investors to make an investment of 200-300 million euros in tourism in the city of Durrës were not found, while the today’s investment is estimated at 2 billion,” the Prime Minister Rama said. //a.i/
