Credit to private sector marked an annual increase of 7.7%

TIRANA, Feb.4 /ATA/- Credit to the private sector marked an annual increase of 7.7% during 2020, helping Albanian businesses and households to meet their liquidity needs and providing the necessary financial aid to increase consumption and investment.

During the monthly press conference after the meeting of the Supervisory Council, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko said that, the banking sector provided assistance to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic.

“This sector has taken over a part of the financial burden of the shock, while maintaining healthy indicators of liquidity, profitability and capitalization. In particular, the non-performing loan ratio dropped to 8.1% at the end of December, a level close to the historical minimum of the last decade. The continuation of this active role of the banking sector even during the next period will be a key element in the sustainability of the economic recovery,” Governor Sejko said. //a.i/
