Draft law on official translation carries interpreter of sign language

TIRANA, January 6 / ATA/ Through the legal initiative for the draft law on official translation and official translators were addressed a number of issues and problems encountered over the years by the Ministry of Justice, as the sole responsible authority in the Republic of Albania for performing and responsibility of official translation service.

“It is particularly important to mention an innovation, not only in our work but also in the field of social policy, the inclusion for the first time in this law, in a full and legal way, of the status of sign language interpreter,” said Justice Minister Etilda Gjonaj.

The sign language interpreter is not only the person who enables communication with a person who does not hear and / or does not speak, partially or completely, from the sign language in the spoken and written Albanian language, during the civil, criminal or administrative proceedings., according to the provisions of the procedural legislation in force but also the person who is included in the most specific categories of social policies of the Government of Albania.

Remember, sign language is an essential means of communication for tens of thousands of deaf people around the world, but in some countries it is “a right for all.”

The electronic register of official translators will now also include sign language interpreters, who will be subject to competition according to specific criteria and certified by the Minister of Justice./p.s./
