Blended classes, teachers and students share their views: It’s efficient, avoids congestion and transmits knowledge as normal

TIRANA, Dec 6/ATA/ – By Arbi Fortuzi/ Bledi Naska/ The blended teaching scenarios as a precaution to stem the spread of COVID-19, have started to be applied in schools countrywide.

The Ministry of Education has come up with a number of paradigms on blended teaching leaving it up to schools to decide which scenario to apply depending on the number of students per classroom and learning space available at schools.

Some schools have decided to proceed with face to face learning in the classrooms as a way not to interrupt the social life of children, who just like adults are coping with emotional impact of the pandemic although they are not at high-risk groups, according to infectious disease specialists.

ATA visited the “Konferenca e Pezës” primary school in Tirana where it met with the school principal, Petraq Tili, to get an insight into how the blended classes have performed so far.

This school has adopted the scenario of blended learning, face to face and online classes. “Scenario 2/1 and 2 / A, which is being applied in schools in compliance with the Ministry of Education guideline is associated with a number of advantages,” Tili said.

One of the advantages is that it avoids congestion of students and also guarantees normal teaching process through online and face to face classes.

How does blended learning work in this school?

“At this stage we have switched to a combination of face to face and website-based online classes. Given the rates of COVID 10 spread at this time of the year, this form have proved very efficient. In my opinion, the scenario has been created thoughtfully by the Ministry of Education,” Tili said.

The principal explains that “in the first week, ie the single week, the students of 6th and 9th grades come to school. This group attends all classes at school. The second group works online so they do not come to school but the same modules are placed online. Next week the second group goes to class and the other group learns online. The same knowledge is transmitted both in the classroom and online.

Teachers are prepared to administer online classes, because they have been trained by IT specialists.

“I am Davina Petriti, 14 years old. I am in the 8 / A grade. Online classes are enabled by an application called Akademi.al and I think it is more suitable for us in the face of the situation. Teachers send us assignments and instructions there about the lessons,” the student says.

While Denis Luka says “on the Akademi.al platform we get homework assignments through videos and photos that our teachers send because it is the best way to keep Covid at bay.”
