Spiropali: Recommendations of Venice Commission, far from opposition interpretations

TIRANA, Dec 3 /ATA/ Minister of State for Relations with the Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, stated today that “the opposition is clinging to the report of Venice Commission, like a drowning man trying to clutch at the straw.”

In a televised interview, Spiropali touched on the preliminary draft of Venice Commission, pointing out that all parties have received a preliminary draft which we do not comment unlike our rivals who interpret in the media certain extracts from the report to the advantage of their lost cause.

“We have received the draft, we will give our opinion, which will be forwarded to the Commission before the final report is issued. But rest assured that the Venice recommendations and their conclusions are far from what they desperately try to interpret in the media. The issue of constitutional amendments, or other issues which are discussed at these roundtables, do not fall within the remit of the Venice Commission and their opinion,” Spiropali said, adding that “this is a working document between the parties.”

Meanwhile, she said, that there are a number of assignments to be completed and we are highly committed to deliver on them.

As to the media law, Spiropali said that first of all, disinformation is not a news. All laws that we propose are viewed through filters such as public consultations and parliament discussion. But slander is not a news and the opposition should not regard slander as a legitimate tool. They should wage their political fight based on ideas, should be clear about their alternative which is built on slander and boycott for two years now,” she said.
