TIRANA, Nov 26 /ATA/- Today it is one year since the 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Albania, which left 51 persons dead, over 900 others wounded and thousands of buildings demolished.
The areas hit the hardest by the devastating earthquake were Durrës, Kurbin, Tirana and Lezha.
The first sights in the morning hours of that day were shocking, stories between life and death, apartment buildings, houses and schools razed to the ground. Army, police and firefighters rushed to the scene to pull the people stuck under the debris of this natural disaster.
The reaction and solidarity of neighboring countries and beyond was prompt and swift in the aftermath of that earthquake. The search-rescue teams from Kosovo, Greece, Italy, Turkey and France worked incessantly to save lives under the wreckage of buildings lying in ruins.
Today one year after the natural disaster, many families are in the process of entering their new houses, while reconstruction of many others is well underway.
