TIRANA, Nov 7 /ATA/ – Gjeorgjina Kuli, a member of the Technical Committee of Public Health Experts for COVID-19, said Saturday that measures of a partial lockdown may be examined depending on the epidemiological situation in the country.
In a televised interview on measures designed to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, Kuli noted that partial lockdown scenarios to shut down activities with minor impact on the country’s social and economic activity are being explored depending on the number of fresh cases.
“Depending on the number of samples that may test positive for the virus, a set of measures and partial lockdown scenarios will certainly be examined to shut down mainly the activities less affecting the daily social and economic activity, including restrictions on bars and restaurants, but nothing concrete is being discussed as of today,” Kuli said.
“The number of new COVID cases surged even though the wave of seasonal influenza is yet to sweep the country. Currently, we face respiratory infections showing same symptoms associated with temperature, fever, cough and flu symptoms. That’s why doctors find it difficult to clinically distinguish among the viruses. That’s the reason why we isolate these children and they undergo the coronavirus test,” Kuli added.
According to her, a large number of studies show that children seem to be less likely than adults to transmit the virus to other children and adults.
“We will make utmost efforts to make sure that primary education schools are not closed,” she said, adding that five children are currently hospitalized and treated for the coronavirus.
Doctor Gjeorgjina Kuli put emphasis on the need to raise awareness among citizens in order to successfully cope with the second wave of the coronavirus.
