TIRANA, November 3/ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that Albania is doing everything in terms of facing COVID-19 and no one else is doing anything more.
Asked at a news conference if the government had considered a partial lockdown to prevent the pandemic from spreading, Rama said “nothing is out of the question”.
“The increase in numbers was foreseen. We have an autumn-winter strategy that is written like black on white. Minister Manastirliu has spoken every day about the great danger of the second wave as a result of relaxation, of taking this confrontation easily after passing an intermediate phase, where in fact things seemed to be moving towards a normality that was not. “It is true in fact and we have repeatedly said that it was not true”, said Rama.
“I say, we are doing everything and that no one else is doing anything more,” Rama said.
He added, “I had a long conversation with the experts of the Technical Committee and it is necessary to learn that we do not count the tests that are done in private, except the positives cases, so in cases of test positives, this is included in updated statistics. But, the total number of tests given to the public is only that of tests taken in public institutions.”
Rama said, “We do not have fast tests, not because we could not find them, but because it was considered reasonable by experts to be tested only by PCR. Quick tests will be in the process soon. But, keep in mind that when we talk about other countries, a large part of the number of tests declared are fast tests.”
“I do what the experts of the Technical Committee suggest and I have absolute confidence in those people. I saw them, I heard them and I could see that their word came out “, said Rama.
But, added the head of government, “if someone will answer the question, while Lulzim Basha has found the formula to curb the infection by leading tests from x to y, how is it possible that this formula has not been found by either Germany or France, nor any other country that has done large numbers of tests?
