TIRANA, October 22 /ATA/ Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku stated today that Vlora Airport will be the main airport of the country.
During a media interview, Minister Balluku explained the importance of building the airport of Vlora.
“Airports are very necessary for many reasons, as we have a large influx. Rinas airport has an influx that reached in 2019 over 2.3 million passengers and of course the capacities are exhausted for handling of both the runway and the passengers”, said Balluku.
On the other hand, she said, the area where Vlora Airport will be built is an area with a significant demographic number as it is surrounded by Fier, Berat, Gjirokastra, etc.
“We intend to turn Vlora into the main airport in the country. Vlora will be built with other capacities with another runway length. Today, in Tirana a transoceanic plane cannot land. The concessionaire must build a runway longer than 3.2 km for these aircrafts to be accommodated. We can never travel to the US unless we have a runway longer than 3.2 km,” Balluku said.
According to the Minister, Tirana and Vlora will be in an open competition, as there will be competition between them, as there will be two different concessionaires, which will bring reduction of tariffs, reduction of tickets, there will be more services that today the concessionaire of Tirana does not offer and these go to the benefit of the citizens.
Vlora, declared the minister, will be built with the speed that the airports are being built today, no more than 36 months./a.gjonaj//a.a/p.s./
