TIRANA, Oct 8 /ATA/ President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, stated on Thursday that he is obliged to send back to parliament the Electoral Code describing the June 5 agreement as a routine one.
Asked in a televised interview whether he will send the Code back to parliament, Meta said:
“To be honest, I would not send it back, what’s the point of returning it to parliament when it will go through parliament anyway. It is nothing but a bureaucratic action. What’s the point of sending it back when they have made up their mind to take this step in breach of all the standards laid down by the OSCE, the ODIHR, Venice Commission, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Right now, I am obliged to do so, why ? Because shortly after they voted this nonsense, this madness, it prompted a reaction from the European People’s Party, which is the main party of our continent, which leads the European Union. The European People’s Party said: “It is an impediment to Albania’s European integration, it was a unilateral passage and therefore we call on the President to send the law back, we call on the Prime Minister and majority alike to reflect,” Meta said.
