Full functionality of Constitutional Court, key condition to ensure democracy and stability

TIRANA, September 30/ATA/- The EU Ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca held on Wednesday a meeting with Vitore Tusha, acting President of Constitutional Court and Chair of Judicial Appointment Council (JAC).

Tusha informed the EU Ambassador Soreca about the work of the Council on fulfillment of vacancies in the Constitutional Court.

“Ensuring its full functionality is a key condition to ensure democracy and stability in Albania and for launching the accession talks in the first Intergovernmental Conference,” Ambassador Soreca said.

“We have welcomed the recent publications by President Ilir Meta and Parliament of two vacant posts and have invited qualified candidates to apply,” he added.

“It is critical that the Justice Appointments Council (JAC) rapidly finalises the evaluation and ranking of candidates for the existing vacant post, building upon the openings of Venice Commission opinion. The European Union continues to support Albania on the justice reform and closely stands by its side as a future member of the Union,” the EU Ambassador Soreca said. //a.i/
