Complaints over home address changes/ Doracaj: Neither voting centres, nor voters lists will change

TIRANA, Sept 29 /ATA/ – The Head of the General Registration Office, Bledar Doracaj, said in a TV interview on Tuesday that the government is working to fix the inherited problem of home addresses, adding that the system has not been working over the past 30 years.

Asked about the recent complaints by various citizens hat their home addresses have been changed without their knowledge, Doracaj said that work is underway to handle this problem, saying “not long time ago, nobody knew for sure their home address and citizens used popular surrounding locations for orientation.”

“It is only after 30 years that the government of Albania allocated a fund to support the project on creation of a new and functioning address system,” Doracaj said, adding that the process included door-to-door surveys, founding that some citizens were not living in the address they had declared, but in even other cities.

“Implementation of the system began in 2019 by combining the two registers, the national civil registry and the national address register,” Doracaj said.

“People will vote in 2021 at the same place where they voted in 2019 or 2017 unless they have changed their address at the Civil Registry Office,” Doracaj stated.
