TIRANA, August 18/ATA/ Consumption of meat and animal products in Albania has increased in the last 10 years.
According to the official data published by the Albania’s Ministry of Rural Development and Agriculture, during 2019 throughout the country have been produced 156 898 tons of meat compared to 145 thousand tons produced in 2010.
In addition to domestic production, there has also been an increase in the meat imports. In 2019, meat imports amounted to 41,069 tons compared to 39,594 tons in 2010.
Farmers who produce meat are oriented towards the fresh meat market, while the meat-processing industry is mainly involved in importing meat in the form of deep freezing.
In 2019, according to INSTAT the number of cattle is 415,609 heads, the number of wool is 1.75 million heads, the number of goats is 862,865 heads and the number of pigs is 183,847 heads.//a.i/
