TIRANA, August 10/ATA/- The regionalization of agriculture by funding crop projects that constitute comparative advantages for a given area, is in the focus of government policies for agricultural development according to contemporary standards.
Four Italian varieties of pear, cherry, plum and apple are being tested at the nursery, Zëmblak, Korçë, aiming at cultivation and production of a quality and high yield for export.
The project “Rural Korça” with the support of the European Union for the regionalization of fruit seedlings has started to be implemented in the nursery Zëmblak following a process of cultivating four new fruit varieties, on a scientific basis.
Shkëlqim Mullaji, an agriculture expert, said that, “The project aims to bring new varieties of pear, cherry, plum and apples, based on scientific studies in Korça area. “Their adaptation to our region will have a very positive impact on production, exports and income growth for farmers.”
According to him, the test will be performed to see which of these varieties is best suited in the Korça area, as not everything brought from abroad can be adapted for the Korça region.
But, unlike other times, said Mullaji, this is a study-based initiative and has been welcomed by local farmers, who differ in fruit production.
“In these years, farmers have experimented with different types of different plants without being guided by genuine experts in the field and there have been cases they have been wrong.
It technically happened that the days of plant production did not coincide with the environmental and climatic conditions of Korça and the yield of their production was not up to the best expectations “- said Mullaji.
He added that this actual initiative is on a scientific basis by Albanian and Italian experts and farmers have welcomed it as an innovation that will improve the standards of fruit production in this area and to supply the domestic and foreign market. /a.g/p.s./
