TIRANA, July 24 /ATA/Beginning from today the Ura Vajgurore town will bear the name of the ancient city of Dimal, one of the oldest civilizations of Illyria, which dates from the years 200 BC.
The news was unveiled to ATA by Mayor of Ura Vajgurore Juliana Memaj who stressed that the name change aims to develop the area through historical tourism and Dimal site.
“We just finished the meeting of the municipal council, which unanimously gave its approval in favor of changing the name from the municipality of Ura Vajgurore to the municipality of Dimal”, – said Memaj.
According to her, this initiative was launched almost a year ago and was embraced by the wider community.
Mayor Memaj said that, “In the medium term budget, we have planned the requalification of the road that goes to Dimal, which we will complete with the municipality revenues. Part of the revitalization of the archeological site is not only the road that leads to Dimal, but its visit and the establishment of a museum to collect all the different artifacts that speak of this ancient Illyrian civilization.
Dimali will become one of the most important tourist destinations in the region of Berat. Among the 500 cultural monuments that this region has, at the top of them is definitely Dimal.
Historically, it got its name from the old bridge, which later, in 1946 was called Ura Vajgurore because of the nearby oil basin./k.s/ /a.g//r.e/p.s./
